2015 Grand Final Review

It was a sea of yellow and black at Blackburn Park in Ouyen where the Tigers were represented by all 4 football teams and the B Grade netball side. In front of a record $21,000 gate the Tigers took home the silverware in the Senior Grade and the Mighty Minis. The Under 16's were extremely unlucky in their close loss, whilst the B Grade led all day except for the final 30 seconds in what was a heart breaking loss. The reserves were blown out of the contest early and were never in the game against a far better team boasting many senior footballers.

The seniors started well kicking away early before the the demons scored the final two goals of the quarter. Jordan Doering looked dangerous up forward kicking 2 goals in the first 5 minutes. Tom Summerhayes and Scott Weekley were dominating the midfield, thanks to first use from ruckmen Zac May. The Tigers were happy with their first quarter but very weary of their determined opponent. The second quarter belonged to the

Tigers kicking 5 goals 4 to Ouyen's 3 points extending the lead at half time to 42 points. The Collins brothers in defense were setting up many attacks and Luke Martin was beating the premier forward of the Mallee competition. Matt Elliott and Bernard Rigby were dominating at the stopages and Clif Ryan was looking dangerous up forward. The second half was controlled by the Tigers but the Ouyen United Demons never gave in and fought the game out to the final siren. After losing only two games during the season a sense of relief swept over the ground when the final siren rang over, signalling a 54 point victory to the Tigers. Multiple goal kickers were 5 each to Jordan Doering and Cliff Ryan. Assisant Coach Matt Elliott was the deserving receipient of the VCFL medal for the Unpires B.O.G. Others to do well were Tom Summerhayes, Scott Weekley and Luke Martin. It was a fantastic team effort with all players deserving a mention. A special mention must go to the coaching panel of the senior team; joint coaches Col Durie and Jason Collins and their assistants Scott Weekley and Matt Elliott. Congrats also to captains Luke Martin and Simon Weekley and vice captain Tom Summerhayes.

The reserves were put to the sword by an unbelievable reserves team that would beat some senior teams running around in the bush. The Tigers were beaten in every quarter but battled hard all day in what was a disastorous last game, after such a great team performance in the Second Semi. Taylor Hannig was fantastic, whether he was in the middle or down back, Liam Barry battles hard all day, as did the defenders Dale Barry, Nick Watson, Ben Notting and Zac Martin. It is always difficult for the two's when both senior teams are fielded in the Grand Final, but it definately shows the strength of the football club. Congratulations to Nathan Wight and Wes Sewell on the way they have coached the team throughout the year.

The Under 16's played out of their skin, but fell short by two straight kicks. The Tigers won every quarter besides the second quarter where the Ouyen boys kicked 5 goals to 1. The boys should be very proud of their efforts and have had an incredible year. Brody Weir and John Summerhayes kicked 2 goals each, whilst Tyson Mckenzie, Perry Roberts and Damon Bailey snagged 1 each. Best players included Callan Noonan, Brody Weir, Drew McClelland, James Feary, John Summerhayes and Dillion Mudge. Congratulations to Jarrod McKenzie and John Wright on how they have coached the boys this year, they have played wonderfully as a team.
